It looks like David Jason is present and correct – for the time being anyway.

Sounds unmissable. And I've even convinced Alys to buy 'em! Result!![]()
What do you think -- can we be confident that these will be PAL discs and not just NTSC region 0 (as is the case with the Graham Chapman 'Brown Trouser' disc)? Is anyone in-the-know?
I must admit, I had the same thought...
Just bringing this thread back up to the top as At Last the 1948 Show and Do Not Adjust Your Set are released today. I'm not going to be able to get them myself until I get paid later this week so if anyone has got them and wants to let the rest of us know about the contents and quality, feel free!
We ain't got nothin' but they don't really care
They don't even know you know
Over at DVD Times there are reviews for Do Not Adjust Your Set and At Last The 1948 Show. Neither release seems to have the reviewer dancing on air, it has to be said.![]()

In terms of the material included or the technical standard of the DVDs?

Interesting that they are saying their NTSC as I saw these in Virgin Megastore (They seemed to be giving then a bit of a push which is good) and deliberatly checked the small print to see if they were PAL or NTSC. They specifically state that they are Region 0 PAL that won't play in the United States and Canada. so who's fibbing?
Hello there, long time lurker, first time poster....
Bought 1948 Show yesterday - it's horrible. Aside from having the naffest possible menus and negligible extras (you get the Terry Jones interview about DNAYS on this disc), while pointlessly being spread out over two discs, they appear to be NTSC (complete with FBI-style warning at start).
This makes the already murky T/Rs look grainier than ever - although the soundtracks are very clear, leading one to wonder what a nice Network/Restortation Team clean up job would have done for them. The "Undercover Policewomen" sketch is particularly bad.
They are the five Swedish compilations, but numbered in a different order (see http://orangecow.org/pythonet/1948show/194...wsharpguide.pdf for more details, hooray for Matthew!. This means we don't get the six complete original episodes, including the Ferret Song and - goddammit! - The Wonderful World Of The Ant, something I've been waiting to see since From Fringe To Flying Circus was published.
Obviously, mixing complete episodes and the compilations would be tricky where footage would be duplicated, but the Swedish comps are hardly sympathetic to the material. The multiplying hostesses are all over the place, the shows aren't particularly well balanced (Cleese sketch follows Cleese sketch, for example) and some of the edits are very visible. There are loads of faults on the original video that shine through the T/R and even a (presumably new?) audio drop out on the "Let's Speak English" sketch that blows one of the key lines.
Such a wasted opportunity that makes an excellent series look dull and ancient. And it's horrible to think that we may not see the situation rectified for many years... Plus, judging by the "trailers", the DNAYS discs look like they're all wobbly film recordings and not those nice videotapes we've seen recently...
On the plus side, it reminds you how brilliant a performeer Tim Brooke-Taylor is - imagine if he'd appeared in Python!
Bugger.

One to buy in the sales then....very, VERY cheaply...

This is all very sad news indeed. However, I'll still be buying these before they hit the sales as I'm just absolutely desperate to see them in any form. Pity, we're not going to get to see a lot of At Last the 1948 Show though...![]()
