Maybe all those post it notes are for Mister Blue Sky thinking - I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.

As expected, 2 new albums: 26 September in Japan and 09 October in Europe:

    Jeff Lynne: "Long Wave"
Electric Light Orchestra: "Mr. Blue Sky - The Very Best Of" (ELO songs re-recorded by Jeff Lynne)

Looking forward to the new new album. Hard to see how the re-records could improve on the originals but I'm guessing the project is going to more than just recreating what's already been?

I think the reasoning behind the rerecords is so that he can license the tracks to films, ads and games himself as he doesn't own the rights to ELO's catalogue, so I wouldn't expect them to be vastly different from the originals. Here's the new version of Do Ya:

I think I may have listened to the originals too many times to go for new versions. Roy Orbison did the same thing when he signed to Virgin, and whilst the versions he recorded were excellent re-creations, I'd never reach for them over the originals. Best to reserve judgment though; could be a good companion piece to the new album.

When someone releases as little stuff as Lynne does, I understand the reasoning behind it but its a shame he thinks its a good way to spend his time! I really liked Zoom, looking forward to something new. Hope we finally get the Armchair theatre reissue as well !!

I really enjoyed Zoom too - it got quite a drubbing at the time IIRC that I never really understood.

I've been waiting years for an Armchair Theatre re-release. My vinyl copy is just about been worn out.

I think you could argue that it should have been credited as a Lynne solo album, as that's what it was, but Zoom had some really great moments musically.

There have been rumours of re-reissues of some of the ELO stuff as well, I'm sure I read that Eldorado was up for example. Fingers crossed for all of that.

At last! the news i have been waiting for! Two new Jeff Lynne albums! (i suppose only 1 if you count the ELO one being a new recording of old songs but--who cares?!)

    This message has been posted on the ELO "Showdown" news e-mail;

Hi, this is Jeff Lynne, and I've got a bit of news for you!

To anyone who has been waiting for me to release some new recordings...thanks for waiting, you're the best.

I know it's been way too long again, but I'm hoping you'll think it was worth the wait. I have two new albums and some other surprises coming shortly! It's true, honestly. (I'm not kidding.) Really!

Both are very unusual and I'm excited to share them with you. It was a real pleasure to work on these projects. They may have taken a few years to complete, but I can tell you it was some of the best musical fun I've ever had.

    Stay tuned.

Long Wave appears to be a covers album. Can't say I'm not disappointed...

    [1] "She"
    [2] "If I Loved You"
    [3] "So Sad"
    [4] "Mercy Mercy"
    [5] "Running Scared"
    [6] "Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered"
    [7] "Smile"
    [8] "At Last"
[9] "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing"
    [10] "Let It Rock"
    [11] "Beyond The Sea"

The ELO songs album has a new ELO song on it called 'Point of No Return'

Hopefully the 'third' release is an all new songs album.

If we've waited all these years for some re recorded ELO and an album of covers I might be a tiny bit grumpy about it.

Likewise. It's not something I can get excited about. I remain optimistic about a further album however...

Must admit to being a little bit disappointed with a covers album. Both albums will be great though I have fingers crossed about the third album featuring new stuff . He does say 'some surprises' so hopefully its the one. So when do we get the documentary ?????
