When I think of all the Beach Boys/Brian Wilson CDs I've bought over the years, and the money I've spent to see either 'faction' in concert, I really hope there are going to be more UK dates than this.

Indeed. If there was a series of smaller shows, I'd go to one: no way I'm going to a stadium gig.

That is indeed most unexpected. Right guys - let's have some more UK tour dates, please.

Any chance of changing the title of this thread to Roobarb's Official Beach Boys thread?

Happy 70th birthday today to Brian Wilson!

Any chance of changing the title of this thread to Roobarb's Official Beach Boys thread?

If we change the title of the thread maybe they will do another UK gig

Went to see Van Dyke Parks in concert at the Barbican on Saturday - fabulous stuff! He was there to promote reissues of his first three albums, but actually did very little from the second and third albums! Lots from "Song Cycle" though, a few from "Jump" and "Orange Crate Art", some eclectic cover versions, and during the encore an amazing version of "Heroes and Villains". All accompanied by an orchestra, with guest vocals from guys from Grizzly Bear and The Fleet Foxes.

Parks was very witty and charming on stage, and hung around afterwards signing CDs. So I got my photo taken with him, and he gave me his business card ...

... before signing my copy of "Song Cycle" with a nice little doodle of his younger self ...

    A fabulous evening!

Here he us doing "The All Golden" on a US radio show a couple of years ago ...

And my new claim to fame is that Van Dyke Parks showed someone how to use the camera on my iPhone

I bloody love Van Dyke Parks. There was a Word podcast featuring him last year and I listen to it regularly.

Mark Ellen: So why did Smile not come out, what's your version of events?
VDP: I don't have a version. I have an aversion to a version.

VDP: There are three types of people in this world. Those who can count, and those who can't count.

He's a lovely man. I'm looking into how I can adopt him as my granddad, I'll let you know how I get on.

Can I have him on Sundays? Seriously, I could listen to the man talk all day.

He's so wise and articulate. Kind of the opposite of how Brian is these days.

There's a "live" show from last month of The Beach Boys on YouTube from that well known live music tv channel in the US... QVC.
    I kid not.
Hopefully the tour will have more energy (though not easy when lead singer is 70). It was Brian's usual excellent backing band and one can only hope more of them can fit on the Wembley stage than the US QVC stage.
But Mike Love's vocals were not great at all...

There are some great reviews of the US live shows. The set lists are varying too, with a good mix of hits and some deeper cuts...

Glad to hear - I did think a small TV studio used to selling carpet cleaners would not provide a good music venue...
